How to capture a web page at mobile or tablet width

Two practical ways to take full-page screenshots of a site’s mobile or tablet layout from a desktop browser.

Responsive sites change layout at different widths. To document the mobile or tablet version you need the page rendered at that width.

Option 1: resize the window

  1. Make the Chrome window narrow until the site switches to its mobile or tablet layout.
  2. Press Alt+Shift+P to capture the full page with Capurize.
  3. Annotate and export as usual.

This shows the real responsive layout at that width. It doesn’t change the device type, so sites that detect phones by user agent may still serve the desktop version.

Option 2: DevTools device mode

  1. Open DevTools (Ctrl+Shift+I) and click the device toolbar icon (Ctrl+Shift+M).
  2. Choose a device such as an iPhone or iPad from the list.
  3. Open the command menu (Ctrl+Shift+P) and run “Capture full size screenshot”.

Device mode emulates a phone’s screen size and user agent. Use Capurize afterwards to annotate the image: open the downloaded file in Capurize Studio.
